The AV-12 is the same antenna without this cable; RAMI states that the integral balun cable is required for proper performance. The antenna weighs 5.5 oz (156 g), or 14 oz (397 g) with the cable. It is rated to 350 mph and 50,000 ft, with a drag of 0.92 lb at 250 mph. The FAA has authorized the AV-12() to TSO-C40c.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eRAMI names the top of the vertical stabilizer as the ideal location, clear of reflections and shadowing from the metal structure. Mounting holes are drilled through the insulator outside the marked area, and the receiver end of the cable gets a connector to suit the receiver. Installation in a certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service.
