The radio has 200 memory channels with 15-character names, dual watch on a priority channel, a dedicated 121.5 MHz key, a 1.7 × 1.7 in dot-matrix display (160 × 160), IPX5 water protection and testing to MIL-STD-810F.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe FTA-550 AA runs on six AA alkaline cells in the SBT-12 tray, which is not designed for rechargeable cells. The SDD-12 cigarette-lighter adapter powers the radio from 12–24 V DC. The Li-ion pack, AC charger and cradle of the FTA-550L are not supplied. The antenna jack is BNC.
