The mounting location must be flat with no gap between skin and doubler. Garmin supplies antenna doublers for installations under US AML STC SA02018SE-D, which is not EASA approval in itself: on an aircraft registered in an EASA state the installation needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service.
