AEROSPEC AS-AV-22 Transponder Antenna

AEROSPEC AS-AV-22 is a rod-style stub antenna for transponder and ADS-B use in the 1030–1090 MHz band, with a female BNC connector and a nickel-plated brass radiator. Its impedance is 50 Ω, the VSWR 1.3:1 at most, and it is rated for up to 1 kW peak pulse power. It stands about 8.5 cm (3.3 in) high and weighs about 28 g (1 oz).

  • Rod-style stub antenna for transponder and ADS-B use, 1030–1090 MHz.

  • Female BNC connector, 50 Ω nominal impedance, VSWR of 1.3:1 maximum.

  • Vertical polarization and an omnidirectional pattern from a quarter-wave stub.

  • Rated for up to 1 kW peak pulse power at 1 % duty cycle.

  • About 28 g (1 oz) and about 8.5 cm (3.3 in) high.

  • Solid brass radiator with nickel plating; other metal parts nickel-plated against corrosion.

Stub radiator and BNC mount

The radiator is solid brass with nickel plating, and the other metal parts are nickel-plated against corrosion.

The antenna is mounted directly by its BNC connector.

Alternative to the RAMI AV-22 and Comant CI-101

AS-AV-22 matches the RAMI AV-22 in band (1030–1090 MHz), nominal impedance (50 Ω), VSWR (1.3:1 maximum), polarization (vertical) and connector (female BNC). The Comant CI-101 is a BNC stub antenna for the same band; RAMI offers the AV-22 as its replacement.

Installation in certified aircraft

In an aircraft with an EASA type certificate, a change of antenna follows the EASA route: an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. The installer needs to confirm before ordering that the antenna is acceptable for the aircraft.

The antenna is rated for speeds up to 350 mph (304 kt) and altitudes up to 50 000 ft.
