Avidyne DFC90 is an attitude-based digital autopilot that combines the autopilot control panel and the autopilot computer in one panel unit. It controls pitch and roll and uses the digital air data and attitude reference of the primary flight display. Modes include flight director, ALT, IAS, VS, HDG, NAV, APPR, LOC/GS and GPSS roll steering.
Envelope protection guards against autopilot-induced underspeed and overspeed, and the Straight & Level button returns the aircraft to level flight from an unusual attitude. The five shop variants are type-specific ship kits: 850-00170-000 for Cirrus SR20/SR22, -002 for Piper PA-46R-350T Matrix and PA-46-350P Mirage, -022 and -024 for the Cessna 182 series with 28 V or 14 V unit, and -026 for the Bonanza series with 14 V unit. Each kit contains the autopilot, the flight manual supplement for the type, the pilot guide and installation documentation; the tray (850-00213-000) is a separate kit.
The DFC90 uses the existing S-TEC roll, pitch and pitch trim servos and needs a compatible PFD: Avidyne Vantage12, Avidyne Entegra with Release 8.0 or later, or Aspen EFD1000 Pro, depending on type. EASA issued an STC for Entegra-equipped Cirrus SR20 and SR22; the US STCs for the other types are not EASA approval. Installation ends with a release to service. Fit depends on the aircraft type, the installed PFD and the current autopilot.
