Can the EDM-790 replace the original EGT or CHT gauges?

Only a gauge that is not required for certification. The EDM-790 is a non-primary instrument: required original equipment with a red line stays, for example on aircraft with adjustable cowl flaps, and the original oil temperature gauge remains when the oil temperature option is fitted. An EGT (exhaust gas temperature), CHT (cylinder head temperature) or TIT (turbine inlet temperature) gauge that is not required may be replaced. Flight manual limits based on the primary instruments take precedence.

What does the EDM-790-4C kit include, and which options are there?

The twin-engine indicator with four EGT and four CHT probes per engine (16 probes), a factory-assembled 20 ft (6 m) harness for each engine, the power connector, data recording with USB download, a 1 GB memory stick and JPI's EZTrends software. The thermocouple leads are trimmed to length and never extended with ordinary wire. Options are fuel flow for both engines, oil temperature, outside air, TIT, carburettor, induction air and compressor discharge temperature.

Can the EDM-790 be mounted vertically, and to which side is the body offset?

No, it is viewed in landscape only. The body is offset to give installation clearance, and the display can be rotated 180°, so the unit can be mounted with the offset to either side; the up direction is set by holding the STEP button for 5 seconds. It fits a 3 1/8 in (80 mm) instrument hole and the face measures 4.81 × 3.47 in (122 × 88 mm).

How does the EDM-790 differ from the EDM-760?

The functions are the same. The EDM-790 has a colour display instead of the EDM-760's single-colour orange plasma display, and a micro-USB port in the front for downloading flight data. JPI covers both in one installation manual, with the same component list and harness part numbers for the 760 and 790.
