KGS Electronics FJ20 is a light dimming power supply for 400 Hz aircraft electrical systems. This pulse-width-modulated AC-to-AC converter takes 115 V AC, 400 Hz (105–125 V AC) and delivers a regulated 0–5 V AC, 400 Hz output at up to 40 A continuous and 200 W. The output is isolated from the input. The unit weighs 2.4 kg.
The output voltage follows a 0–5 V DC control signal, either from the slider of an external 10 kΩ potentiometer or directly from a 0–5 V DC source. An internal trim potentiometer sets the output within ±10 % at the full clockwise position of the external potentiometer. The wiring diagram shows three output channels on a barrier strip and a 5 A breaker in the 115 V AC input. Protection covers low and high input voltage shutdown, soft start, output overvoltage limiting and short-circuit current limiting; the unit carries 150 % output current for 5 minutes.
The operating range is −55 to +71 °C up to 55,000 ft. The housing measures 116.8 × 112.3 × 164.3 mm, mounts on four 10-32 threaded fasteners and takes an MS3106A28-9S mating plug. A certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service after installation. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the lamp loads to be dimmed.
