Garmin GI 275 Base Kit Electronic Flight Instrument

Garmin GI 275 Base Kit (010-02325-00, -10, -20) is the GI 275 base unit without ADAHRS for a 3.125-inch round panel hole, used as an MFD with HSI and CDI pages or as an engine indication system. Kit -10 adds a GEA 24 engine adapter, kit -20 a GEA 110. Garmin announced EASA approval of the GI 275 for more than 1,000 aircraft models in January 2021.

  • The 2.69-inch touchscreen has 480 × 433 pixels and is operated by touch and a dual concentric knob.

  • The unit mounts from behind the panel in a 3.125-inch (3 ATI) round hole; the face is 82.6 × 82.6 mm and the body 163.6 mm deep.

  • As an engine indication system it covers single or twin piston engines with 4, 6 or 7 cylinders; engine sensors are ordered separately.

  • The supply is 14/28 V DC, with a typical draw of 0.65 A at 14 V and 0.32 A at 28 V.

  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth connect the unit to the Garmin Pilot app, which updates databases while the aircraft is on the ground.

  • Garmin announced EASA approval for more than 1,000 aircraft models in January 2021; the approved modification must cover the aircraft type.

Multi-function display, HSI and CDI pages

Multi-function display, HSI and CDI pages

The GI 275 base unit shows configurable pages from the equipment connected to it: moving map, HSI, CDI with map underlay, traffic, weather, terrain, radar altimeter, Stormscope and transponder. What a page shows depends on the navigator, traffic, weather and transponder units that are interfaced.

A backup GPS antenna on the glareshield can serve as a VFR GPS source in Class I and II aircraft that have no external GPS. An internal backup battery is optional for an MFD installation and powers the essential display sensors for at least 60 minutes.

Engine indication (EIS)

The GI 275 base unit provides engine indication for four-, six- and seven-cylinder piston engines; turbine engines are not supported. One GEA 24(B) or GEA 110 engine adapter and one GI 275 are used per engine, so a twin needs two indicators and two adapters. Up to five pages can be configured, with exceedance alerts and timers for flight hours, Hobbs and tach time.

The minimum per engine is CHT and EGT sensors, an engine adapter, and RPM, oil temperature and oil pressure sensors, plus manifold pressure where the aircraft needs it. The sensors are not part of the kit.

Kit variants and items not included

010-02325-00 is the base kit without engine adapter, 010-02325-10 is the base kit for EIS with a GEA 24, and 010-02325-20 is the base kit for EIS with a GEA 110. The base unit is Garmin P/N 011-04489-00, installed with the single connector kit 011-04809-00. All three kits are offered new.

The unit has no integrated ADAHRS; attitude and air data come from the ADAHRS versions of the GI 275, which are a separate listing. Engine sensors, the backup battery 010-02304-00 and the backup GPS antenna are separate items.

Approval path for EASA aircraft

Garmin announced EASA approval of the GI 275 for installation in more than 1,000 single- and multi-engine aircraft models in January 2021. An installation in a certified aircraft needs an approved modification that covers the aircraft type, followed by a Certificate of Release to Service.

Garmin's installation manual for the MFD and EIS functions is written for the GI 275 Part 23 AML STC (FAA SA02658SE), which applies only to aircraft on its Approved Model List. A US AML STC is not EASA approval. Garmin leaves the final decision on whether the STC applies to a given aircraft to the installer.

Wireless connectivity and data

Built-in Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and Bluetooth connect the unit to the Garmin Pilot app on a phone or tablet. The app updates databases on the ground, shows traffic, weather and position data from connected equipment and logs flight data; a paired Garmin D2 Delta watch can show position, airspeed and altitude. Database updates are disabled in flight, and the System ID of the unit is needed to buy databases from Garmin.

The base unit has one 78-pin D-sub connector. Garmin specifies an operating range of −20 to +55 °C and a maximum operating altitude of 55,000 ft.
