JPI 400509 is the oil temperature probe for JPI primary engine monitors, with a 5/8-18 thread for the standard oil temperature port of Continental and Lycoming engines, where it replaces the original sensor. The probe is a complete grounded type K thermocouple assembly with red/yellow thermocouple wire; wire length has no effect on the reading.
In the EDM-900 and EDM-930 primary installation (JPI Report No. 908), the oil temperature wire connects to pins 1 and 2 of harness 790200, observing polarity, and the oil temperature is shown as a digital value and a bar graph. JPI also lists the 400509 as the oil temperature option for the EDM-730/830 and EDM-350; the 400505 with 1/8 NPT thread is the probe for an alternate location. The probe location follows the engine manufacturer's data. The EDM installation manual is FAA-approved under a US STC; in an EASA aircraft the installation needs an approved modification and a release to service. Fit depends on the EDM model and the engine type.
