Artex C406-2 is an automatic fixed (AF) emergency locator transmitter that transmits on 121.5, 243.0 and 406 MHz. After activation, the 406 MHz transmitter sends a coded digital message to the Cospas-Sarsat system every 50 seconds for 24 hours; the 121.5/243.0 MHz homing signal continues for at least 50 hours. Shop P/N 453-5000 is the C406-2 main assembly (ELT only, 1.43 kg).
The C406-2 has two RF outputs, BNC for 121.5/243.0 MHz and TPS for 406 MHz, for a dual-input antenna. A 2.3 g crash sensor activates the ELT automatically; the self-test checks the G-switch, 406 MHz power, antenna connection, position data and battery. The five-year LiMnO2 battery pack (452-0133) is part of the main assembly and also powers the buzzer. With the ELT/NAV Interface (453-6500), the 406 MHz message also carries the aircraft position.
Artex lists the mounting frame, installation kit, cockpit remote switch, buzzer, antenna and coax cables as separate P/Ns; they are not part of P/N 453-5000. The C406-2 holds FAA TSO-C126, JTSO-2C126 and EASA ETSO authorisation EASA.IM.21O.10040703. The ETSO authorisation is not an installation approval: an aircraft registered in an EASA state needs approved installation data for the type and a release to service after installation. Fit depends on the aircraft type. An order needs the state of registry and the registration or 24-bit address for coding.
