Garmin GEA 24B (010-02770-01) is a remote-mounted engine interface module that sends engine sensor data to a GI 275 engine indicator or a G3X Touch system. With the GI 275 it serves 4-, 6- and 7-cylinder piston engines in aircraft up to 6,000 lb.
GEA 24B is the engine interface module of Garmin's certified GI 275 engine indicator and G3X Touch systems for piston aircraft: P/N 010-02770-01, unit 011-05991-01. It is mounted remotely in the cabin and weighs 0.336 kg. A US AML STC does not replace EASA approval; a certified EU installation needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service.
Four D-sub connectors: J241 (9 pin), J242 (25 pin), J243 (37 pin) and J244 (50 pin).
With the GI 275, one GEA 24B and one GI 275 serve each engine of four, six or seven cylinders. Turbine engines are not supported.
Unit weight is 0.336 kg (0.74 lb); with the D-sub connectors Garmin gives 1.6 lb (0.73 kg).
With the GI 275, installations are limited to single and twin piston aircraft up to 6,000 lb take-off weight and a 32,000 ft service ceiling.
Resistive fuel floats connect directly, with a 0–620 Ω sensor configuration; the GEA 24 needed parallel resistors.
Garmin lists unit 011-05991-01, Mod 0 and Mod 1, in the G3X Touch AML STC SA01899WI. This is a US approval, not an EASA one.
Connectors and mounting
J241 (9 pin), J242 (25 pin), J243 (37 pin) and J244 (50 pin) carry the power, communication and sensor connections. The module is mounted with the connector face and status LED visible, in the fuselage cabin, in any orientation; with the GI 275, connectors pointing down are preferred.
It does not go in the engine compartment or where water or fluids reach it. Garmin asks for at least three inches of free space at the connector end and an electrical bond to the airframe.
Part numbers and Mod levels
Garmin P/N 010-02770-01 is the certified GEA 24B, unit 011-05991-01. The GI 275 installation manual and the G3X Touch installation manual both list the pair, and the G3X Touch manual shows Mod 0 and Mod 1; any individual or combination of these is approved under the STC.
A Garmin notification of October 2024 approves the unit with Mod 1 marking, which removes voltage transients on CHT 5 and 6 seen with Mod 0 units. The experimental GEA 24B, P/N 010-02770-00, is a separate product for G3X systems in experimental aircraft.
With the GI 275
The GEA 24B collects the engine sensor signals and passes the parameters to the GI 275 over RS-232. An installation consists of one GEA 24B and one GI 275 per engine, with four-, six- or seven-cylinder piston engines; the GEA 24B is limited to single and twin piston aircraft up to 6,000 lb and a 32,000 ft service ceiling.
In some twin-engine installations the GEA 24B cannot be connected to resistive fuel floats; the aircraft model notes in the GI 275 manual apply. The GEA 24B of a GI 275 cannot be shared with a G3X Touch system.
With the G3X Touch
In a G3X Touch system the GEA 24B is the optional engine adapter and is connected to the displays over the CAN bus; depending on the CAN bus layout, a Garmin terminator (011-02887-00) may be required at the module. The STC covers aircraft with a single piston engine up to 6,000 lb and six seats or fewer.
Garmin lists the engine types the G3X Touch engine indication does not support: turbine, radial, liquid-cooled, more than six cylinders, multiple engines and engines with FADEC. The module must sit in a flammable-fluid-free zone in the cabin.
Replacing a GEA 24
Garmin states that STC SA01899WI approves the GEA 24B as an update of the GEA 24, for new installations or to replace the original part number. For most interfaces the two use the same wiring and configuration.
The fuel quantity inputs differ. A GEA 24 needed resistors between the resistive fuel floats and the unit; a GEA 24B takes the floats directly in new installations. If a GEA 24 is replaced, the resistors may stay in the harness, but the fuel quantity calibration must be repeated.

How does this GEA 24B differ from the experimental 010-02770-00?
Garmin lists 010-02770-00 as the experimental GEA 24B, unit 011-05991-00, for G3X systems in experimental amateur-built and light-sport aircraft. The certified 010-02770-01 is listed in the GI 275 and G3X Touch STC manuals. The two are separate products.
Which engines and aircraft does the GEA 24B support with the GI 275?
Four-, six- and seven-cylinder reciprocating engines, one GEA 24B and one GI 275 per engine. The GEA 24B is limited to single and twin piston aircraft up to 6,000 lb take-off weight and a service ceiling of 32,000 ft. Turbine engines are not supported.
Can one GEA 24B feed a GI 275 and a G3X Touch together?
No. Garmin does not allow an engine indication unit to share a GEA 24B with a G3X Touch system. A GEA 24B used for a GI 275 connects to the GI 275 only. The G3X Touch STC covers single piston engines of up to six cylinders and does not cover multiple engines, radial, liquid-cooled or FADEC engines.
How many CHT and EGT probes does a GI 275 installation need?
For all cylinder temperatures, one EGT and one CHT probe per cylinder: 4, 6 or 7 of each on a single engine, 8, 12 or 14 of each on a twin. Configured for a single CHT and EGT, one probe of each per engine is enough. Oil pressure and temperature, manifold pressure, fuel pressure, fuel quantity, fuel flow and RPM are further engine parameters.
Can the GEA 24B replace a GEA 24 without new wiring?
For most interfaces the two units use the same wiring and configuration. The difference is fuel quantity: a GEA 24 had resistors in the fuel float wiring, which may stay when a GEA 24B replaces it, but the fuel quantity calibration must be repeated.
Is the GEA 24B approved for installation in the EU?
Garmin states the approval of the GEA 24B in the US AML STC SA01899WI for the G3X Touch, which is not an EASA approval. A certified aircraft in the EU needs an approved modification, such as an EASA STC or a validated STC for the type, and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the aircraft type, the engine and the display system.
Is the Garmin GEA 24 compatible with the GDU 370 display?
Yes, the GEA 24 interfaces with the GDU 370 via CAN bus.
Is the Garmin GEA 24 compatible with the Garmin GDU 1060 display?
No. The GEA 24 is not certified to work with the G600 system.
