Garmin GEA 71B is an engine and airframe interface unit for Garmin integrated avionics. It reads engine and airframe sensors, drives annunciator outputs and sends the data over RS-485 to the GIA integrated avionics units. In a G1000 NXi the MFD shows the engine instruments and the PFDs show the airframe alerts; the engine data is also shown in reversionary mode.

The unit has 18 analog inputs, engine temperature inputs, transducer excitation outputs, discrete and digital inputs, nine annunciator outputs and two differential counter inputs. A thermocouple and a configuration module temperature sensor in the backshell measure the connector junction temperature. Configuration is done through the cockpit displays. In the G500/G600 TXi, a GEA 71B Enhanced provides the engine indication (EIS) data.

P/N 010-01405-00 is the standard version (unit 011-03682-00); 010-01405-02 and 010-01405-05 are Enhanced versions supplied as unit only. The GEA 71B is installed as part of the approved Garmin system of the aircraft; after replacement, software and configuration are loaded and the aircraft is released to service. Fit depends on the P/N of the installed unit, the avionics system and the aircraft type.
