Garmin GI 285 is a panel-mounted mode annunciator for the Garmin GFC 600 autopilot. It shows the active and armed lateral and vertical modes and the status of autopilot, yaw damper and trim: green for an active mode, white for an armed mode, yellow for an active mode that has lost sensor data, and red for a failure of AP, YD or TRIM. The bezel measures 90.1 × 30.4 mm, the depth behind the panel with connector is 114.3 mm and the unit weighs 0.13 kg.
The GI 285 receives its commands from the GMC 605/605C mode controller over RS-232 and runs on 14 V or 28 V with an average draw of 65 mA at 14 V. In a GFC 600 installation, a GI 285 is required when part of the mode controller display lies outside the defined viewing area and no Garmin display serves as PFD.
P/N 010-01598-00 is the unit only (011-04011-00). Install rack 115-02373-00 and connector kit 011-01824-00 are ordered separately; the rack is screwed flush into the panel and the installer makes the wiring harness. A certified aircraft needs an approved modification for the GFC 600 and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the GFC 600 configuration.
