Whelen Orion 650E is an embedded LED wingtip lighthead that combines a forward position light and a white anti-collision light and is mounted behind a clear wingtip lens, not externally. The family covers OR6501GE (P/N 01-0790701-01, green) and OR6501RE (-02, red) for 14 V DC, and OR6502GE (-11, green) and OR6502RE (-12, red) for 28 V DC. Whelen lists TSO/ETSO-C96a Class II and TSO/ETSO-C30c Type II (green) or Type I (red).
At 14 V the position light draws 0.30 A and the anti-collision light 0.70 A on average and 3.6 A peak; at 28 V the figures are 0.15 A, 0.35 A and 1.8 A. The anti-collision light has 24 white LEDs and flashes 45 ± 5 times per minute. The lighthead measures 98 × 43 × 56 mm and weighs 0.26 lb (about 120 g).
The assembly is mounted as far outboard as practical, with the baseplate parallel to the aircraft centrelines. FAA STC SA800EA includes P/N 01-0790701-( ), and Whelen lists EASA STC 10055068, the EASA validation of SA800EA for GA aeroplanes on its approved model list. A certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the existing wingtip lights.
