The Whelen Orion 600 is a wingtip light that combines the forward position light, the white tail position light and a white anti-collision light in one housing. The forward position light is green or red. The same light is available for 14 V DC and 28 V DC.
Whelen lists TSO/ETSO-C96a Class II and TSO/ETSO-C30c Type II and III. The lens is clear hard-coated polycarbonate and can be replaced in the field. The housing measures 144 x 45 x 52 mm and weighs 0.5 lb (about 230 g). Anti-collision lights flash at 45 plus or minus 5 times a minute. A SYNC lead lets Whelen anti-collision lights flash together.
On 14 V the position lights draw 0.48 A and the anti-collision light draws 1.0 A on average (5.2 A peak). On 28 V the position lights draw 0.17 A and the anti-collision light draws 0.5 A on average (2.6 A peak), from a 22 to 32 V supply. Part numbers are 01-0771733-01 (green, 14 V), 01-0771733-02 (red, 14 V), 01-0771733-11 (green, 28 V) and 01-0771733-12 (red, 28 V). A forward position system uses one light on each wingtip. On a certified aircraft the installation needs approved data.
