RAMI AV-525 is a receive-only VOR/LOC/GS V dipole antenna for 108–118 MHz and 328–336 MHz with an internal balun transformer and a female BNC connector. RAMI lists it as a direct replacement for the Comant CI 157P. The antenna is similar in style to the RAMI AV-12, spans 29.64 in (753 mm) and weighs 0.50 lb (227 g).
It has 50 Ω nominal impedance, horizontal polarization and an omnidirectional pattern; VSWR is 3.0:1 maximum in the VOR/LOC band and 2.0:1 maximum in the glideslope band. Because the balun is built in, the receiver or antenna coupler connects through a coaxial cable with a BNC plug, such as Amphenol Connex 112116. The FAA has authorized the AV-525 to TSO-C34e, TSO-C36e and TSO-C40c; environmental qualification is to RTCA DO-160G. The antenna is rated to 350 mph and 50,000 ft.
RAMI names the top of the vertical stabilizer as the ideal location, clear of reflections and shadowing from the metal structure. The antenna mounts through two 13/64 in (5.2 mm) holes. Installation in a certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the NAV receiver model.
