Garmin GTN 750 GPS/NAV/COM Navigator

Garmin GTN 750 (unit P/N 011-02282-00, standard kit 010-00820-50) is a panel-mounted GPS/NAV/COM navigator with a 6.9-inch touchscreen in a 6.25 × 6.00 in bezel. It combines an SBAS GPS to TSO-C146c, a VHF COM with 8.33 and 25 kHz spacing, and VOR, localizer and glideslope receivers. Garmin's slide-in successor is the GTN 750Xi.

  • 6.9-inch sunlight-readable touchscreen, 600 × 708 pixels, in a 6.25 × 6.00 in (159 × 152 mm) bezel.

  • SBAS GPS to TSO-C146c Class 3 with 15 channels (12 GPS, 3 GPS/SBAS) and a 5 Hz position update.

  • VHF COM 118.000–136.975 MHz at 25 kHz and to 136.992 MHz at 8.33 kHz; 10 W standard, 16 W optional by enablement card.

  • ARINC 429, RS-232, HSDB Ethernet and ARINC 453/708 interfaces; remote control of a GMA 35 audio panel and a transponder.

  • Supply 11 to 33 V DC; the main connector typically draws 2.4 A at 14 V and 1.2 A at 28 V.

  • Operating range −20 to +55 °C, altitude −1,500 to 55,000 ft; the TSO requirements are met without external cooling.

Touchscreen, map and databases

Touchscreen, map and databases

The touchscreen carries the moving map, flight plan, procedures and the COM, NAV, audio panel and transponder controls in one top bar. Garmin lists display of terrain and moving map, ChartView and FliteCharts, checklists, VNAV, flight plan information and search and rescue patterns among the system functions.

The installation manual names basemap, navigation, FliteCharts, ChartView, SafeTaxi, terrain and obstacle databases. ChartView is enabled with an enablement card.

Weather, traffic and terrain

Weather, traffic and terrain

The GTN 750 displays weather, traffic and terrain data from connected systems. Garmin lists ADS-B traffic, TIS/TAS/TCAS I traffic, passive lightning detection, SiriusXM and datalink weather and weather radar among them. With a GDL 88 connected, ADS-B traffic is displayed to TSO-C195a; ETSO-C195a is not achieved, so the installer decides whether the function suits a European installation.

TAWS-B terrain alerting is optional and uses enablement card 010-00878-01. Without the card the unit offers a terrain alerting subset that is not to TSO-C151c.

COM, VOR, localizer and glideslope

The COM transceiver has two microphone inputs and transmits at 10 W minimum, or 16 W minimum in 16 W mode. Garmin recommends a 25 percent duty cycle at 16 W, for example 5 seconds on and 15 seconds off. The 16 W mode is a software feature enabled by card; in 14 V aircraft it needs COM software v2.11 (006-B1061-05) or later.

The unit displays VOR, localizer and glideslope information and provides VHF CDI/VDI output. A stuck microphone is cut off after 30 seconds and the radio returns to receive.

Interfaces, power and cooling

Garmin lists ARINC 429 in and out, RS-232, HSDB (Ethernet) and ARINC 453/708 weather radar. Optional interfaces include audio panel, air data computer, autopilot, EFIS/EHSI, IRU/AHRS, DME, ADS-B traffic, FIS-B sources and Flight Stream. The GPS position output can feed ADS-B Out equipment; the installer ensures compatibility per AC 20-165B.

A fan in the backplate draws air through inlets in the bezel sides and bottom, which must stay clear. A unit mounted less than 12 inches from the compass requires a compass recalibration.

Part numbers and variants

Garmin lists three GTN 750 unit P/Ns: 011-02282-00 black, 011-02282-50 gray and 011-02282-A0 black and NVIS-B compatible. The unit-only kit is 010-00820-00; the standard kit 010-00820-50 adds mounting rack 115-01294-00, connector kit 011-02326-02, backplate assembly 011-02246-02, a configuration module kit and the product information kit.

010-00820-50 is supplied new as the standard kit; 011-02282-00 is available as a serviceable or overhauled unit or as a repair. The 16 W COM, TAWS-B and ChartView options each need a separate enablement card.

Approvals and installation path

The GPS is design approved to TSO-C146c Class 3 and the COM to ETSO-2C169a, the latter with 8.33 kHz carrier squelch set to 0. A TSO article needs its own installation approval in each aircraft.

GTN installation is not eligible as an EASA Standard Change because its functions exceed CS-SC052b. A certified aircraft needs an approved modification covering the type, such as an EASA STC, and a Certificate of Release to Service. For types not on Garmin's AML, EASA names a minor modification or an STC extension agreed with EASA. The US AML STC SA02019SE-D is not EASA approval.
